School Spotlights: Inside Online RN to BSN Programs in Nebraska
Perhaps, like me, you’ve wondered how you could manage BSN coursework while working full-time. That’s the appeal of an online RN to BSN program: it can offer a more flexible way to continue your education without pausing your nursing career. But it helps to know what “online” includes:
- Flexible coursework: Classes take place online, though schedules and pacing vary.
- Clinical experiences: When required, these take place in person, often at approved local sites.
Program structures can vary quite a bit depending on the school. Below, we highlight three Nebraska online RN to BSN programs to help you compare and decide.
University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC)
A campus commute doesn’t have to be part of your BSN plans. UNMC’s RN to BSN program offers six online nursing courses, with full-time and part-time options.
In this program, you’ll study:
- Health promotion
- Evidence-based practice
- Healthcare outcomes
- Population-centered care
- Leadership
The BSN requires 120 credits, including credit that UNMC grants eligible RNs for their previous nursing education. A transcript review will show which general education courses you still need. The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Duration: As little as one academic year full-time or up to three years part-time. Your timeline may be longer if you need additional prerequisite courses.
Mode: Courses are online and generally available on demand, though some may require you to log in at a set time. You’ll complete clinical work in person in your community.
Cost: For 2026–2027, tuition is $421 per credit for residents and nonresidents. The 20 required nursing credits cost about $9,385, including library fees. Books and any additional general education courses cost extra.
Admissions Requirements:
- An associate degree in nursing (ADN) or diploma in nursing
- Provisional or current RN licensure that permits practice where you’ll complete clinical work
- Required prerequisite courses completed with grades of C or higher and a minimum 2.0 prerequisite GPA
- An application through NursingCAS, including college transcripts, references, and a response to the reflection question
- A course plan filed with UNMC Student Services
Nebraska Methodist College (NMC)
A traditional semester may be too long of a commitment for some working nurses. In this case, shorter courses such as those offered at Nebraska Methodist College’s online RN to BSN program may be a better fit. The courses last five weeks, followed by a week off before the next one begins.
The curriculum focuses on population health and includes:
- Health assessment
- Leadership
- Nursing research
- Evidence-based practice
- Healthcare informatics
- Community-based care
NMC evaluates your previous credits to determine which requirements remain, and the program is accredited by the CCNE.
Duration: Three semesters, or about 12 months, with appropriate transfer credits, and part-time study is available.
Mode: Coursework is online. You can complete the community health practicum at a local site.
Cost: Tuition is $350 per credit for 2026–2027. NMC estimates $11,760 in tuition and fees for 28 credits, but your total depends on the number of courses you still need. Factor in the cost of books.
Admissions Requirements:
- A nursing diploma or associate degree from a state-approved nursing program
- A current, unencumbered RN license
- A minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Completion of NMC’s required courses before the first semester
- An online application, official transcripts from all colleges attended, and a résumé
Clarkson College
Your nursing experience may help you earn credit toward your BSN at Clarkson College. If you have at least two years of relevant nursing experience, the school allows you to submit a portfolio to earn credit for one course in leadership, population health, or evidence-based practice. Bear in mind you’re still required to take at least 30 credits through Clarkson.
The RN to BSN curriculum totals 37 credits that accumulate toward a 120-credit degree.
In this program, you’ll study:
- Evidence-based practice
- Leadership
- Population health
You’ll also complete a capstone practicum.
The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). RNs working at Nebraska Medicine may qualify for a sponsorship that covers tuition and fees in exchange for a four-year work commitment.
Duration: Three semesters full-time or five semesters part-time, though some students can finish in less than a year.
Mode: Theory courses are fully online. You can complete practicum hours near home, potentially at your workplace if faculty approve the setting and you can meet the clinical requirements there.
Cost: For 2026–2027, expect to pay $345 per credit for nursing courses. Other undergraduate courses, including general education, cost $691 per credit. Clarkson also charges a $200 program fee and a $350 technology fee each semester, plus a $150 first-time enrollment fee. Your total tuition cost depends on which courses you need.
Admissions Requirements:
- An associate degree in nursing or a nursing diploma.
- An active, unencumbered U.S. RN license valid where you’ll complete your practicum.
- A minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 2.5 math and science GPA.
- A completed Clarkson College application.
- Official transcripts from every college attended.
FAQs for Nebraska RN to BSN Students
Are RN to BSN programs in Nebraska available in a 100% online format?
The three programs featured here offer online coursework, but each includes clinical or practicum work you can generally complete close to home.
- UNMC: You’ll complete clinical work in your community or nearby.
- Nebraska Methodist College: You’ll complete a community health practicum at a local site.
- Clarkson College: You’ll complete practicum hours near home, potentially at your workplace with faculty approval.
Before enrolling, find out what each school requires for clinical or practicum experiences, including the number of hours, approved-site rules, whether your workplace qualifies, and when you will need to complete them.
How affordable are online RN to BSN programs in Nebraska?
Nursing tuition at the three Nebraska schools featured here ranges from $345 to $421 per credit for 2026–2027. A lower rate doesn’t always mean a smaller bill, though, because each program requires a different number of credits. For example:
- UNMC’s 20-credit nursing sequence costs about $9,385 with online and library fees
- Nebraska Methodist College estimates $11,760 for its 28-credit plan, including tuition and fees
- Clarkson charges $345 per nursing credit, but any other undergraduate courses you need cost $691 per credit
Check whether employer tuition reimbursement or financial aid are available, which can help offset your cost.
How long will it take me to finish my online RN to BSN program in Nebraska?
Many Nebraska RN to BSN programs take about one year of full-time study when your previous coursework transfers. Part-time study is also available in many schools and gives you more room to manage work and family responsibilities, but it extends the timeline.
- At UNMC, you can finish in as few as two semesters full-time or take up to six semesters part-time.
- Nebraska Methodist College offers a three-semester full-time path if you have appropriate transfer credit.
- You can complete Clarkson College’s program in three semesters full-time or in five semesters part-time.
An admissions advisor can review your transcript before enrolling to help you understand your remaining requirements and timeline.
What are the typical admissions requirements for Nebraska online RN to BSN programs?
Most programs ask for:
- An ADN or nursing diploma
- An active RN license
- Official transcripts
- A minimum GPA
NMC and Clarkson both require a 2.5 GPA. Clarkson also expects a 2.5 GPA in math and science. UNMC sets a 2.0 prerequisite GPA but admits students competitively. You may also need professional references and a personal statement.
Is it worth pursuing a BSN in Nebraska if I already have my ADN?
For most RNs, the answer is yes, but also think about the nursing jobs you’d like to pursue. A BSN may help you qualify for leadership or community health positions and prepare for graduate nursing education.
Payscale’s national data lists an average hourly base pay of about $35 for people with an ADN and nearly $40 for those with a BSN. What you earn depends on your employer, experience, and position; completing the degree doesn’t automatically bring a raise.
Nebraska projects about 1,620 RN job openings each year from 2024 through 2034. That figure includes openings from both growth and replacement, but it doesn’t mean that every opening requires a BSN.

Base Methodology for EduMed’s “Best Online College Rankings” for the ‘25-’26 school year.
One: Create a list of eligible schools & programs
To be eligible for ranking, schools were required to meet the following criteria based on data pulled from The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), which was self-reported by the schools themselves:
- Institutional accreditation from an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
- At least one online component in a program within the ranking-subject area.
- The existence of academic and career counseling on campus and/or online.
Two: Assign weightings to eligible schools & programs
After creating the list of eligible schools, EduMed data scientists assigned weights and ranked schools based on a mix of metrics, which were all self-reported by the school themselves to the U.S. Department of Education and IPEDS.
The metrics are listed below in order of most- to least-heavily weighted*.
- Tuition – Average in-state tuition for undergraduate students studying full-time.
- Online Programs – Number of online programs, either partially- or fully-online, in the relevant subject area.
- Avg. Aid Amount – Average amount of institutional grant aid awarded to full-time, first-time undergraduates.
- Students w/ Aid – Percent of full-time, first-time students undergraduates awarded institutional aid.
- Online Enrollment – Percent of undergraduate students taking at least one distance education class.
- Graduation Rate – Percent of full-time, first-time receiving an award in 6 years.
- Student/Faculty Ratio – The number of students per faculty member.
*Metrics #2-5 and #6-7 were equally weighted.
